Filtering Face Masks (FFPs)

Disposable safety masks, also known as FFP masks, are single use filtering facepieces worn for one shift then thrown away. They are graded FFP1, FFP2 or FFP3 depending on how much airborne particulate they filter out, and they are the fastest way to protect a workforce against dust, mist and fume without the ongoing upkeep of a re-usable mask. For sites with contractors or visitors passing through, that no maintenance simplicity is often the deciding factor.

Disposable face masks are tight fitting RPE, so face fit testing is still required for every wearer. They are also not suitable for gases or vapours, which call for a half mask or full face mask fitted with the correct filter.
