Qualitative Face Fit Testing Equipment

Qualitative face fit testing checks how well a tight fitting mask seals by asking the wearer whether they can taste or smell a test agent sprayed into a hood while they perform a series of exercises and speak aloud. It is a pass or fail method rather than a numeric score, faster and cheaper to carry out than quantitative testing, and it works well for disposable filtering facepieces and half masks. It cannot be used on full face masks or powered respirators, which need a quantitative test instead. Under COSHH, every wearer of tight fitting RPE needs an individual fit test before relying on the mask at work.
